19 June 2022: for immediate release

Welcoming the announcement by the Government of the latest round of rail reopening schemes to receive funding from the Restoring Your Railway Fund, Norman Baker from Campaign for Better Transport said:

“Reopening a disused rail line can transform an area, so we are glad to see these exciting schemes receiving a boost. They have the power to connect communities, cut carbon, create jobs and boost the economy.”

Norman Baker added:

“Money to develop these schemes is welcome, but we want to see them brought through to completion, and that will require a strong focus on value for money and strong hands on the reins to avoid runaway costs.”
